International Organization for Migration (IOM)
IOM addresses the complex dimensions of the water-migration nexus through its policy and operational efforts.
IOM is committed to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, providing technical policy support on migration-related issues within water governance and upholding the principle of “leave no one behind”. IOM raises awareness and addresses environmental migration challenges, particularly those related to water-related hazards. Within the framework of its policy and advocacy work, IOM engages on the international stage to embed migration-related issues into environmental and climate change policies, while migration is integrated into water-focused policy agendas.
In line with IOM's Strategic Plan 2024 - 2028, IOM provides WASH services to 11.2 million people in 65 countries to save lives and protect people on the move and drive solutions to displacement. As one of the largest WASH providers in emergency contexts, IOM recognizes that access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is life-saving in humanitarian contexts and that environmentally sustainable WASH services are also critical to resolve displacement situations and build resilience to future climate shocks.
