United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR)
UNHCR works to ensure forcibly displaced people can access clean water, sanitation and hygiene services, thus contributing to the SDG 6.1 and 6.2 and leaving no one behind. These life-saving services contribute to their protection, health, well-being and dignity, and help prevent disease outbreaks.
From the start of an emergency, UNHCR works closely with local governments and partners to advocate for the inclusion of refugee-hosting areas in national water and sanitation systems and development plans. Through climate-resilient WASH programming, we work to make sure that people forced to flee have access to safe water for drinking, cooking and washing. We help to build, repair or reinforce sanitation systems and facilitate access to hygiene supplies, while preventing the spread of disease and promoting a healthy environment.
