Webinar: Towards stronger implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management in the Arab Region

International Fund for Agricultural Development

A forthcoming webinar on the progress of implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the Arab region will be held on 26 July 2022 at 12.00-13.00 (GMT+3). The event is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and hosted by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) and the United Nations Environment Programme-DHI Water and Environment Centre (UNEP-DHI Centre).

The event will draw on the 2021 Status Report on the Implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management in the Arab Region, which provides a progress update on implementing IWRM in the region and identifies priority areas that will help accelerate full implementation. The report is based on data from 21 out of the 22 countries in the region that reported on SDG indicator 6.5.1 between 2017 and 2020.

The webinar will be conducted in English and Arabic and aims to:

  • Discuss some of the key enablers for accelerating IWRM implementation;
  • Encourage countries to initiate a robust national consultation mechanism for the next reporting round on SDG indicator 6.5.1 in 2023, through lessons learned and experience shared by national focal points;
  • Inform countries about the support available for reporting, developing an action plan, and implementation, in particular through the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme.
