UNECE host 9th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention

180301-0090

From 29 September to 1 October 2021, more than 500 representatives for Ministries responsible for water, environment, foreign affairs and development cooperation will join NGO representatives and academics from all over the world for a major UN meeting on transboundary waters – the aquifers, lakes and river basins that are shared by two or more countries.

The Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes assures the sustainable use of transboundary water resources by facilitating international cooperation on the issue. The ninth ‘Meeting of the Parties’ to the Convention will take place as a hybrid event based in Geneva. The high-level meeting offers Parties and non-Parties to the Convention the opportunity to discuss how transboundary water cooperation is essential to foster trust, stability and peace between nations.
