Sanitation and Water for All holds virtual Finance Ministers’ Meetings

On Tuesday 3 March 2020, the World Bank and the IMF announced they will adopt a “virtual format” for their Spring Meetings, instead of convening them in Washington D.C, in order to prevent the spreading of the coronavirus.

The full programme of face-to-face events accompanying the Spring Meetings, including the SWA 2020 Finance Ministers’ Meeting (FMM), has been cancelled. Sanitation and Water for All has hence decided to convene a virtual FMM as close as possible to the date originally planned for the face-to-face Meeting (17 April). SWA are currently working to articulate the details of the meeting.

The meeting complement and build on SWA’s regular Sector Ministers’ Meetings, that gather ministers responsible for water, sanitation and hygiene to share and learn from others’ experiences as they progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Meeting will, as planned, be used to highlight the practical actions that can be taken by finance ministers to mobilize additional financing through increased cost recovery, better planning, credit enhancements and improved efficiency to deliver universal access to water supply and sanitation.
