Global Environment Facility (GEF)

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is the world’s largest multilateral fund dedicated to tackling environmental challenges. Since its establishment in 1991, the GEF has provided funding to developing countries to support projects on climate change, biodiversity, land degradation, international waters, chemicals, and waste. It brings together 186 countries, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector to drive transformative change for a healthier planet. The GEF also serves as a financial mechanism for major environmental conventions, including the UNFCCC, CBD, and UNCCD.
