GCF Water Project Design Guidelines

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has released a new three-part set of Water Project Design Guidelines, offering a structured, programmatic approach to developing climate-resilient water initiatives.  

To enhance water security and climate resilience, the GCF leverages innovative financing mechanisms to address critical water security areas, including water conservation, efficiency, and reuse; hydrological monitoring; early warning systems and risk assessment; integrated water resource management; SDG 6 alignment; ecosystem-based adaptation; and climate-resilient WASH solutions.  

Part 1 presents a comprehensive overview of designing climate-resilient water projects. This document provides practical recommendations for developing impactful water sector proposals that align with GCF's investment criteria. GCF Water Project Design Guidelines – Part 1

Part 2 explores practical applications, including Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM), Climate Resilient WASH (CR-WASH), drought and flood management.
