Water at UN Climate Summit

When 190 nations gather in Paris from 30 November to 11 December it is to reach a new climate change agreement that aims to keep global average temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) - beyond which there will be irreversible impacts.

Climate change affects everyone; emissions released anywhere contribute to a problem everywhere. International cooperation is essential to address this inherently global issue. Paris must be a turning point, which sends a loud and clear signal to citizens, markets and the private sector that the transformation of the global economy is inevitable, beneficial, and already underway.

Water has a pivotal role in climate change adaptation and mitigation. On Monday 7 December, UN-Water organises a side-event to demonstrate good practices of how to adapt water management and water services and discuss the role the United Nations system can play in assisting countries.

A strong climate agreement in Paris, backed by action on the ground, will help us achieve the Sustainable Development Goals to end poverty, build stronger economies and safer, healthier, and more liveable societies everywhere.
