UNICEF report: Stocktaking and gap analysis on the use of UNICEF Gender Responsive WASH Guidance

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has launched a new report called Stocktaking and gap analysis on the use of UNICEF Gender Responsive WASH Guidance: Key elements for effective WASH programming and recommendations to move to a transformative approach.

This review focuses on the integration of gender transformative strategies within WASH programmes. Key findings reveal strengths and areas for improvement in UNICEF's current WASH guidance document, advocating for an update to align with evolving strategies and to be more applicable to various country office contexts.

Despite a growing awareness of gender in development, WASH initiatives have been slow to adopt transformative models addressing gender disparities. The report delves into the reasons behind this delay, attributing it to the sector's historical focus on infrastructure development and the traditional dominance of fields by men.
