Launched at the COP 16 of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Riyadh, the “Decent Work in Nature-based Solutions 2024” report calls for targeted investments, especially in regions with significant potential, such as Africa, Latin America, and the Arab States.

Nature-based solutions encompass activities such as restoring freshwater ecosystems, conserving natural resources, and integrating sustainable water management into infrastructure projects. These solutions can address water scarcity while creating employment opportunities, especially in low- and middle-income countries.

The report stresses the need for skills development to meet the rising demand for labour in these sectors. Investing in nature-based solutions could drive climate resilience, enhance water security, and create equitable job opportunities worldwide, especially in vulnerable regions.
