New FAO tool: Prioritization of Irrigation Schemes for Modernization / Rehabilitation (PRISM)

Two men in a test filed

The new Prioritization of Irrigation Schemes for Modernization/Rehabilitation (PRISM), developed by the Land and Water Division of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is a web-based platform to guide the prioritization of irrigation investment.

With PRISM, users can analyse and target irrigation schemes based on a comprehensive set of strategic indicators. The platform’s intuitive and user friendly interface helps to allocate resources efficiently and drive meaningful change.

The main objectives of PRISM are:

  • to support decision-makers in planning and programming irrigation investment, aligned to national priorities.
  • to guide the development of country’s need and vulnerability assessment.
  • to support project formulation, targeting country’s investment towards the most vulnerable/exposed areas with the highest potential impact.

The tool is available as a web application, and publicly available here
