Ministers of Health approve resolution on WASH in health care facilities

During the 72nd World Health Assembly, hosted on 20–28 May 2019, the WASH in health care facilities resolution was unanimously approved.

MATERNAL & INFANT MORTALITY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

World Health Organization (WHO) Member States committed to developing national roadmaps, setting and monitoring targets, increasing investments in infrastructure and human resources and strengthening systems to improve and sustain Water, Sanitation and Health (WASH) services in health care facilities.

During the discussion of the resolution, 32 countries spoke and highlighted the fundamental role of WASH in Health Care Facilities (HCF) for achieving universal health coverage, improving quality of care and in preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
