International Soil and Water Forum 2024 and World Soil Day

The International Soil and Water Forum 2024, co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture of Thailand, will take place in Bangkok from December 9-11, 2024.

The event will mark the world’s first high-level action plan on halting and reversing soil degradation and water scarcity, both critical elements for ensuring food security and a healthier environment for all.

Heads of state, ministers, researchers, and global experts will discuss managing water scarcity, reversing land degradation and promoting land restoration, sustainable soil management, and integrating climate-resilient approaches to land, soil, and water management.

UN World Soil Day falls during the event, on 5 December. This year's campaign, "Caring for soils: measure, monitor, manage" highlights the crucial role of soil data and information for understanding soil health and optimizing its management to support agriculture, store carbon, and preserve biodiversity.
