High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation

The High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation will take place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, from 29-31 May 2025.

The event will be hosted by the Government of Tajikistan with support from the United Nations, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and other key partners.

This landmark event will bring together high-level representatives from UN agencies, governments, financial institutions, and civil society with global policymakers, scientists, and experts to discuss the urgent crisis of glacier retreat and forge concrete solutions for their preservation.

The Conference objectives:

  • Emphasize the urgency of halting glacier melting and its global consequences.
  • Foster international collaboration on research, policy, and resource mobilization.
  • Implement the UN Resolution 77/158 on the International Year of Glaciers' Preservation 2025.
  • Promote scientific research and innovative monitoring technologies.
  • Strengthen transboundary cooperation to preserve glaciers and their socio-economic benefits.
  • Develop climate adaptation strategies for glacier-dependent communities.
  • Align global efforts with major international summits (2025 UN Ocean Conference, HLPF, COP15, COP30, UN-Water Conference 2026).
  • Ensure glacier preservation is integrated into global water, energy, and food security policies.
