Global Workshop on Source-to-sea Management

A Global Workshop on Source-to-sea Management will be held on 14-16 December 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland, and online.

The workshop will gather experts and policymakers from the freshwater and ocean communities, as well as from transboundary basin organizations and marine organizations, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and to share good practices in policymaking and implementation of effective source-to-sea management.

The source-to-sea approach aims at bridging existing gaps by connecting the ecosystems’ management and tackling maritime pollution at the source, upstream. Managing land, freshwater, coastal and marine resources holistically – from source to sea – helps to protect oceans, and manage freshwater as well as land resources more sustainably.

The global workshop is organized under the Water Convention serviced by UNECE, under the leadership of Estonia and Slovenia, with a range of partners.

The organizers encourage the participation of relevant representatives from countries and basins responsible for freshwater and/or maritime cooperation as well as from transboundary basin organisations and marine organizations.

Please register (virtual or in-person participation) by Friday 2 December 2022.
