In December 2020, UNICEF and WHO launched the Global progress report on WASH in health care facilities: fundamentals first

The report highlights that almost 2 billion people depend on health care facilities without basic water services. Water, sanitation and hygiene are vital to the safety of health workers and patients, yet often, provision of WASH services is not prioritized.

The report also describes country progress, drawing upon data from 47 early adopter countries, in implementing standards, conducting situational analyses, improving infrastructure and regular monitoring. Despite progress, critical gaps remain regarding investments and integration with health.
