The 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12), hosted by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), will be held in Cairo, Egypt, from November 4–8, 2024.

Returning to Africa after two decades, WUF12 will centre on the theme of “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, including a focus on cities and the climate crisis.

Over 70 per cent of cities are already feeling the impacts of climate change, such as floods, droughts, severe storms and sea level rise. By 2050, 2.7 billion people will face climate-related risks.

The event brings together national and local governments, civil society, urban planners, and experts to explore practical solutions for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Key topics include resilient infrastructure, inclusive urbanization, and the role of cities in mitigating climate impacts. By fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, WUF12 aims to accelerate sustainable urban development that promotes social inclusion and environmental justice, ensuring cities are livable, resilient, and accessible for all.
