Launch of ‘UN Group of Friends in Support of WASH in Health Care Facilities’
The UN Permanent Representatives of Hungary and the Philippines, in cooperation with WHO, have launched the ‘UN Group of Friends in Support of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Health Care Facilities’.
The launch event in December was joined by UN Missions from across the globe, and included statements from WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as well as UN Representatives from Japan, Colombia, Egypt, and Nepal in support of greater action and cooperation to improve WASH conditions in health care facilities everywhere.
WHO and UNICEF’s 2020 report Global progress report on water, sanitation and hygiene in health care facilities: fundamentals first found that:
- One third of health care facilities do not have what is needed to clean hands where care is provided.
- One in four have no water services.
- 10 per cent have no sanitation services.
