Discussion on Water in the Post-2015 Development Agenda
27-28 Feb 2013
Geneva, Switzerland

On 27-28 February 2013, almost 200 participants from 70 countries will gather at UNECE at the Palais des Nations in Geneva to discuss the role of water in the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

After five weeks of intense online discussion on the three sub-consultations of the Thematic Consultation on Water for the “World We Want”, 2 of the 3 identified streams, 1) Water Resources Management and 2) Wastewater Management and Water Quality, will come under the microscope for a two-day meeting hosted by the Swiss Government.

Should Water Resources Management and Wastewater Management and Water Quality be part of the Post-2015 Development Agenda? If so, how? How does water relate to the other 10 themes of the World We Want consultation, such as energy, health and food? Those and many more are the types of questions the participants will be asking and answering over the course of the meeting.

The meeting will be opened by Mr. Martin Dahinden, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and followed by the Minister of Public Works from Liberia, Mr. Samuel Kofi Woods, UNECE’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Sven Alkalaj, Mr. Michel Jarraud, Chair of UN-Water, and high-level officials from The Netherlands, UN-Habitat and WHO.

The results of this meeting will be presented at The Hague, The Netherlands during the High Level Forum and Celebration of World Water Day.
