UNICEF’s new report highlights the way that restricting or controlling access to water can be used as a weapon of war. Children and families are forced to rely on unsafe water, or leave their homes in search of a new source. On average, in protracted conflicts, children under 15 are nearly three times more likely to die from diarrhoeal diseases linked to unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene than from violence.
