The UN Commission on Sustainable Development at its 13th Session (CSD-13) in 2005 called on Governments and the UN System to take actions related to water resources management and decided to monitor and follow-up the implementation of decisions in 2012.

The report is based on the analysis of data from a questionnaire-based global survey assessing the progress and outcomes of the application of integrated approaches to the development, management and use of water resources.

The report will be used as the basis for informed decision-making by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and national governments. It includes lessons learned and recommendations, as well as focus areas for action. The report also provides guidance for establishing a regular international monitoring and reporting framework to promote sustainable development and management of water resources.

The report is based on the analysis of data from a questionnaire-based global survey assessing the progress and outcomes of the application of integrated approaches to the development, management and use of water resources. 133 countries responded to the survey, see map below. The global questionnaire was complemented by an interview-based survey in 30 representative countries.

UN-Water Publications

UN-Water’s publications can be divided into two main groups: the publications that represent all Members and Partners of UN-Water – the collective products – and the publications that are under the UN-Water umbrella but produced by groups or individual UN-Water Members and/or Partners – the related products.
