World Water Day Photo Galleries

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP): Photo Galleries

World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) and International Year of Freshwater Photo Library
Established in 2003 as part of the International Year of Freshwater web site, the photo library allows users to browse the collection by theme or by region. You may use the photos, but please read the copyright instructions carefully and be sure to cite the source. The International Year of Freshwater site also has a special water photo exhibition.

United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Photo Contest 2005
In 2005, UNCCD held a photo contest as part of the run-up to the "International Year of Deserts and Desertification" in 2006. In 2009, the UNCCD secretariat in cooperation with the Secretariat for Environment and Sustainable Development of Argentina launched the second international photo contest to raise awareness for the issues of desertification, land degradation and drought through photography.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO): Photography
Water is central to sustainable agricultural production and food security. Conversely sustainable agricultural production is the key to dealing with the threat of water scarcity. FAO has created several photo galleries dealing with the crucial relationship between water, agriculture and food security. The FAO Water multimedia page also has photo galleries, interactive maps and animations.

World Health Organization (WHO) Photo Galleries
Our health depends on having access to clean water and adequate sanitation. WHO has several galleries of photos devoted to the topic of water and health. They have also posted the photos from the 2007 photo contest on health and the environment. Many of these excellent photos deal with water.

The WWC's Media Center has a very large collection of photos. The downloadable images are available for use by the media as long as the photo credit is included. At the Media Center, journalists can also find story ideas and contact details for water experts.

World Wildife Fund - Canon Photo Gallery
Canon Europe and WWF have been working together since 1998 in Europe , the Middle East and Africa. With Canon's support, WWF has been able to digitise its image collection and to make it readily available online. The photos in the WWF-Canon photo galleries are for private use only. No reproduction or commercial use is allowed.
