UN-Water Annual Report 2012 and Work Programme 2012-2013 now available

With the approaching MDG 2015 target date, the international community has been active to assess progress and create momentum in areas that are lagging behind, such as sanitation, so as to shape a more inclusive post-2015 development framework that builds on the MDGs and addresses their weaknesses. UN- Water has been no exception and has united the voice of UN-Water Members, Partners and stakeholders into the discussions on all issues related to freshwater, including sanitation. The role of UN-Water as the coordinating mechanism across the UN System has been growing. This year's annual report highlights key activities related to the post-2015 agenda but also the success of the World Water Day campaign, the release of flagship reports and other important thematic work.

UN-Water 10 Years AnniversaryUN-Water celebrates its 10 Years Anniversary

UN-Water was formally established in September 2003. It provides the platform to address the cross-cutting nature of water and maximize system-wide coordinated action and coherence; and serves the UN Member States in their efforts towards achieving development goals related to freshwater and sanitation. Through UN-Water the UN System is acting as "One UN". On the occasion of its 10 years anniversary, UN-Water presents a specially decorated visual identifier and an interactive timeline highlighting milestone events and important outputs since its establishment in 2003. We are also happy to share a new, revised brochure presenting UN-Water's main activities and its functionning.

World Water Day 2014Preparations for World Water Day 2014 on Water and Energy underway

"Water and Energy" will be the theme of World Water Day next year. Water and energy are closely interlinked and interdependent. Energy generation and transmission requires the utilization of water resources. Conversely, about 8% of the global energy generation is used for pumping, treating and transporting water to various consumers. The 2014 logo, which symbolises the co-dependent relationship between water and energy, has been unveiled on the occasion of the UN-Water Seminar on Exploring the Water-Energy Nexus that took place on 4 September at the World Water Week in Stockholm.
