Mongolia and Oman: first two UN-Water Country Briefs published

The UN-Water Country Briefs present in a visual way the critical importance of water investments for human and economic development. The briefs intend to foster stronger interventions on water-related issues by policy makers dealing with peace and security, infrastructure investments, agricultural, health, education and environmental issues, as well as macro- and micro-economic perspectives. A series of 13 pilot country briefs will be published in June 2013. The first two of this series are now available: Mongolia and Oman.

Spotlight on sanitation

With the UN Deputy Secretary General's Call to Action on Sanitation launched on 21 March, attention is brought anew to the essential role of sanitation for fighting poverty and for achieving all the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDG target to reduce by half the proportion of the population without access to sanitation is at serious risk. Today, 2.4 billion people still lack access to adequate sanitation and at the current rate of progress, more people will lack access to sanitation facilities by 2015, rather than fewer. UN-Water is coordinating the Sanitation Drive to 2015 through its Thematic Priority Area on Water Supply and Sanitation, and supports the DSG's Call to Action. Check out our information products and tools, and become a sanitation driver!
