World Water Day 2013: recognition of outcomes of the water consultation
The High Level Forum assembled in The Hague on World Water Day 2013 discussed water cooperation as an essential means to achieve a water secure world and recognized the key outcomes and recommendations of the Thematic Consultation on Water in the Post-2015 Development Agenda, as presented in the advance summary of the consultation's synthesis report. The synthesis report will soon be available for public comment and will provide a comprehensive view of the outcomes of the consultation.

Defining "water security" to initiate the dialogue in the UN system
This new UN-Water Analytical Brief on Water Security and the Global Water Agenda proposes a working definition of water security developed from contributions made by the broad range of organizations, agencies, programmes and institutions that form UN-Water. It is intended to serve as a starting point for dialogue on water security in the UN system. The Brief, produced by UN-Water Task Force on Water Security, aims to capture the dynamic and constantly evolving dimensions of water and water-related issues, and offers a holistic outlook for addressing water challenges through the umbrella of water security.

UN-Water 'Water for Life' Best Practices Award 2013 goes to Japan and the Republic of Moldova
The 2013 edition of the award has been given during World Water Day celebrations in The Hague, the Netherlands, on 22 March to two outstanding initiatives. Category 1 on 'best water management practices' has been awarded to a project focusing on groundwater management using the system of nature in the Japanese city of Kumamoto and Category 2 on 'best participatory, communication, awareness-raising and education practices' has been awarded to a project promoting safe water and sanitation for all in the Republic of Moldova.

Watch out for UN-Water Country Briefs
Coming out in June 2013
The UN-Water Country Briefs are currently under production and an initial series of 13 Briefs is expected in June 2013. The Briefs will allow to better visualize the critical importance of investments in water for human and economic development, with the intention to foster increased political momentum and mobilize increased financial and institutional investments directed to water–related interventions. Countries covered in this phase of the project are Bangladesh, Chile, Gambia, Ghana, Guyana, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Mongolia, Oman, Philippines, United Republic of Tanzania, Viet Nam, Zambia.
