Join us for the Water Day @ Rio+20

On 19 June 2012, UN-Water will host the Water Day @ Rio+20 during the Sustainable Development Dialogue Days at RioCentro prior to the Rio+20 summit. The Day will be divided in 4 parts:

  • Launch of the UN-Water Status Report on Water Resources Management for Rio+20 and discussion panel on IWRM
  • Global commitments on universal access to water and sanitation
  • Water and sanitation as a human right
  • 2013 International Year of Water Cooperation

UN-Water Status Report on Water Resources Management
In 1992, the Earth Summit's Agenda 21 recommended integrated approach to the management of water resources. 20 years later, this report, based on data and information from 130 countries, provides a status of IWRM. It informs the Rio+20 process and proposes new targets for water resources management.

Rio+20 from a water perspective

The need to improve the provision of water and sanitation services and the management of the world's water resources as well as wastewater has been underlined at previous international conferences on sustainable development. Rio+20 presents a unique opportunity to boost commitments from governments.
