ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder, appointed Chair of UN-Water

“Thank you for the advice and encouragement and I look to all of you Members and Partners for advice along the road,” said the new UN-Water Chair, ILO Director-General at the 24th UN-Water Meeting in Geneva.

Mr. Ryder is appointed Chair following the mandate of Michel Jarraud, Secretary-General Emeritus of the World Meteorological Organisation who retired in 2015.

“As we now focus on implementing the 2030 Agenda, especially as it relates to reducing inequalities and providing fair and decent living standards for all, it is an auspicious time for the ILO to take the lead,” said Mr. Jarraud at the hand-over ceremony.

At the meeting, Joakim Harlin, Senior Water Adviser at UNDP also took up his position as Vice-Chair following the end of Blanca Jimenez-Cisneros, Director of the Division of Water Sciences at UNESCO.
