IIASA analyses the water-energy-food nexus in East Asia

The water, energy and food nexus means that the three sectors — water security, energy security and food security — are inextricably linked and that actions in one area more often than not have impacts in one or both of the others.

A new IIASA analysis demonstrates the hidden virtual flows of water, energy, and food embedded in trade, within the East Asia region. The analysis also demonstrates a mismatch between regional water-energy-food availability, resource consumption and the lack of attention for environmental impacts in national economic growth strategies.
