The UNW-AIS is UN-Water's online platform to present and share information and knowledge on water-related projects and learning initiatives of its members and partners from a global to local level. Two core components of the UNW-AIS related to projects and learning activities, both face to face and distance. UNW-AIS also contains results from several project mappings conducted under the auspices of UN-Water Task Forces, Thematic Priority Areas and the GEF IW:Science initiative. The content of the UNW-AIS is structured along UN-Water's focus areas.
The UNW-AIS targets UN-Water and its members and partners as well as a broader audience including policy makers, water professionals, researchers and those from higher education.
The development of the UNW-AIS was mandated to UNW-DPC by UN-Water in 2010. It expands the functionality of the earlier Capacity Development Information System (CDIS), in response to UN-Water members' and partners' expressed needs for a common platform. In contrast to various other water platforms UNW-AIS represent truly a One-UN effort that covers the whole water and sanitation sector from global to local level.
