Task Force on Water Resources Management |
 |
In 2005, the Thirteenth session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-13) requested that UN-Water follow up on decisions related to water and sanitation at two specific occasions: in 2008 and in 2012.
At the CSD-16, in 2008, UN-Water delivered a Status Report on Integrated Water Resources Management and Water Efficiency Plans based on surveys.
For the review in 2012, UN-Water asked the United Nations Environmental Programme, UNEP, to lead the preparation of a Status Report: 'The Application of Integrated Approaches to Development, Management and Use of Water Resources'. To oversee the process, a Task Force was established and the preparation of the report carried out by a core team including the UNEP-DHI Centre for Water and Environment (UDC), the UNDP Water Governance Unit and Global Water Partnership (GWP).
Activities
The Task Force has carried out the following activities:
- Setting up the organization and getting consensus on the scope, methodology and process among partners and stakeholders;
- Developing a survey instrument including a general questionnaire rolled out to all countries and an in-depth survey applied in selected developing countries;
- Developing a contact database and establishing a help-desk to facilitate the response process;
- Preparing the report and submitting it to the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development;
- Publishing the report and disseminating the outputs;
- Feeding the findings from the survey into global and regional meetings leading up to the Rio+20 Summit;
- Proposing a regular monitoring and reporting framework based on the survey instrument.
